“The dream of my life
Is to lie down by a slow river
And stare at the light in the trees—
To learn something by being nothing
A little while
but the rich
Lens of attention.”—from Entering the Kingdom by Mary Oliver (via jennifercoynequdeen)
“What in your life is calling you,
when all the noise is silenced,
the meetings adjourned,
the lists laid aside,
and the wild Iris blooms
in the dark forest,
what still pulls on your soul?”—Rumi (via myworldmyhermitage)
“In the creative state a man is taken out of himself. he lets down as it were a bucket into his subconscious, and draws up something which is normally beyond his reach. He mixes this thing with his normal experiences, and out of the mixture he makes a work of art.”—E.M. Forster (via mycolorbook)
Now and then everything feels wrong and desolate,
and sprawling in pain, weak and exhausted,
every effort reverts to grief,
every joy collapses with broken wings.
And our longing listens for distant summons,
aching to receive news filled with joy.
But we still miss bliss,
fortunate fates elude from afar.
Now is the time to listen within,
tend our inner garden mindfully
until new flowers, new blessings can blossom.
